World Freedom Day is a United States federal observance declared by then-President George W. Bush to commemorate the fall of the Berlin Wall and the end of communist rule in Central and Eastern Europe. It started in 2001 and is celebrated on 9 November.
For this occasion, conservative youth groups such as Young America's Foundation[1] and the College Republicans urge students to commemorate this day (which th
ey mark as the start of "Freedom Week," thus including Veterans Day) by "
celebrating victory over communism" through provocative flyer campaigns and
activism projects.
The Church of Scientology is an organization devoted
to the practice and the promotion of the Scientology belief system. The Church of Scientology International is the Church of Sciento
logy's parent organization, and is responsible for the overall management,
dissemination and propagation of Scientology.[2][3][4] Every Church of Scientolog

The first Scientology church was incorporated in December 1953 in Camden, New Jersey by[8][9]< a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/L._Ron_Hubbard" title="L. Ron Hubbard" >L. Ron Hubbard, his wife Mary Sue Hubbard, and John Galusha, although the Hubbard Association of Scientologists International (HAS I) had already been operating since 1952[10][11] and Hubbard had been selling Scientology books and other items. Soon after, he explained the religious nature of Scientology in a bulletin to all Scientologists,[12] stressing it s relation to the Dharma. Major Richard Robert W right Sr., a former slave, believed that there should be a day when freedom for all Americans is celebrated. While living in Philadelphia towards the end of his life, he invited local and national leaders to mee t to organize a movement for a national holiday to commemorate Lincoln's si gning of the 13th Amendment. The resulting National Freedom Association pro posed having a memorial date to call attention to the continuing struggle f or freedom for African-Americans. Since President Lincoln had signed the 13 th Amendment on the first day of February, that date was chosen to celebrat e National Freedom Day. The first commemoration took place on February 1, 1 942, at Indepen dence Hall. As it has every year since, the remembrance included laying a wreath at the Liberty Bell.

d opposition to slavery and the slave trade. The Quakers had long viewed sl
avery as immoral, a blight upon humanity. By 1807 the abo
litionist groups had a very sizable faction of like-minded members in t
he British Parliament. At t
heir height they controlled 35–40 seats. Known as the "Saints", the a
lliance was led by the best known of the anti-slave trade campaigners, William Wilberforce, who had taken on the cause of abolition in
1787 after having read the evidence that Thomas Clarkson had amass
ed against the trade.[1
March 31, 1979 is remembered in the Maltese calendar as Freedom Day (Maltese: Jum il -Ħelsien). This is the anniversary of the withdrawal of Bri tish troops and the Royal Navy from Malta. On taking power in 1971, the Labour Government indicated it wanted to re-negotiate the lease agreement with the United Ki ngdom. Following protracted and sometimes tense talks, a new agreement was signed whereby the lease was extended till the end of March 1979 at a vastl y increased rent. On March 31, 1979 the last British Forces left Malta. For the first time in millennia, Malta was no longer a military base of a fore ign power and it became independent de facto as well as de jure.

The construction of the 25 de Abril Bridge began on November 5, 1962. Forty-five months late r, the bridge was inaugurated on August 6, 1966 as the Salazar Bridge, afte r the Estado Novo regime's leader António de Oliveira Salazar. Soon after the Carnation Revolution in 1974, the bridge was renamed the 25 de A bril Bridge, the day the revolution had occurred. A symbol of those tim es was captured on film, with citizens removing the big brass "Salazar" sig n from one of the main pillars of the bridge and painting a provisional "25 de Abril" in its place.
In Portugal, many avenues, squares, and stre ets are named after the day of the revolution – 25 April.
